1959 Plymouth Pursuit
The 1959 models were originally issued in a solid maroon paint scheme. The white door was an addition to the fleet in the 1960 model year. It is believed the 1959 Plymouth pictured above may have been a prototype for the new paint scheme. This is the same unit pictured on the previous page.
The 1959 Plymouth Pursuit pictured below was damaged extensively when it was struck by a vehicle driven by a drunk driver. Officer Norris Sletten was attempting to catch up with the other vehicle. Unbeknownst to Sletten, the suspect vehicle had stopped on the left side of the road. As Sletten approached and was reducing speed, the suspect vehicle accelerated from the left shoulder and into the left side of the patrol car, causing it to go off the road into the ditch where it spun. As it spun, the driver's door became unlatched. Sletten credits his seat belt for keeping him in the car and keeping him safe from harm. The patrol car came to a stop in the ditch with the right front wheel under the oil pan and the obvious damage to the left side. The unit was repaired at a cost of just over $600. Interestingly, both the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were charged with and convicted of driving while intoxicated. But, that's another story...
